Been listening for 11, or 12 years now. There's nothing else like it. I mean where else are you going to hear Mike Tyson sing the " Girl from impanama"???
In a sea of free, I'd feel so guilty if I didn't support this show. I have recommended and ripped so many shows for friends to the point of having a library of the best ones on the network at work. BRYHNH is the shizzle.

This podcast is the best, just like it says in the title. If you love prog with rock, blues and any other genre of music thrown in for good measure then this is for you. Listening tip: don't check the playlist until AFTER you've listened to the whole episode. It's a constant joy (well, twice a month anyway) to be surprised and illuminated by the mix of music hitting your eardrums. Wonderful!!!!

Long ago, before Satellite Radio, you could listen to FM radio and not have a clue what was coming next. Free form radio sadly died out replaced by lame stations utilizing rigid, deathly boring playlists. Want to go back to the glory days of free form? Look no further. Perry plays the good stuff here. A wonderful listen every month.

I have been enjoying Best Radio since in started in 2006. When it comes to music it is really the only thing I have really stuck with over the years. Love the variety of music. The live cuts that you can't get at your local music shop are fantastic. Don't get to listen as much as I used to due to job changes but still makes the day better.
If you like rock music, no matter what kind of rock you usually listen to, you will enjoy these playlists. Guaranteed.
It is hard to find great rock music without having your own library of albums. FM/AM radio has limited options, serious xm is costly and segmented, Pandora and spotify are a pain. All of these won't give you what BRYHNH does on a consistent basis: new sounds from the artists we love and artists we may never have heard of, in an all-encompassing genre that doesn't give us new music that often. I know when I hit play that I'm going to hear songs I love one minute and be surprised in the next

I've been looking for good music podcasts and have generally been frustrated by the meager findings I've come across so far - until I found this podcast. Perry puts together great shows packing in stuff that I love along with things I may not have sought out but greatly enjoyed. The wealth of live recordings are great gems and much appreciated.
I discovered Perry's show while looking for interesting music podcasts to listen to on my commute. Now I truly look forward to driving on the 1st and 15th because I'll have a fresh new BRYHNH to listen to. Thanks for introducing me to music I have never come across before in my 52 years. I am now hooked on King Crimson especially 'The Court of the Crimson King'. They are even an English band! Although I have a soft spot for Pink Floyd and they have similarities.

THE BEST PLAYLIST I'VE NEVER HEARD
I have listened to 3 or 4 BRYHNH episodes a day for the past week, and I have no time for any other podcasts now.
I like 95% of what I hear on BRYHNH. I am familiar with 80% of the artists I hear on BRYHNH. I've only heard 5% or less of the tracks played on BRYHNH playlists.
No other radio broadcast or podcast has your tastes in playlist or format. Hope to listen for to BRYHNH for at least another 12 years!
I truly appreciate the work you've done with BRYHNH. I have described the podcast to my fiancee as like discovering a new friend with an awesome record collection.
I have been geeking out with all my serious music friends and family about BRYHNH.
Now, thanks to BRYHNH, we can stay current with with the sort of music that truly moves us, without it being solely "classic rock/pop oldies" format.

Perry. I used to love the anticipation of a new Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Floyd etc. album. Those days are long gone and CD's don't have the same feel, so they aren't a longed for event. BRYHNH episodes however have sort of taken over from albums and I do look forward to them, wondering what weird and wonderful combinations of music you're gonna throw together. Keep on keeping on my friend.

So Perry played football in high school, was in a really bad van accident 30 or so years ago, hit a car door suddenly swung open before him on his bike at full tilt; all of which caused massive trauma to his body and arguably his brain pan. Any of these could be responsible for his innate ability to mix genres and go from Pink Floyd to Bauhaus or Steven Wilson to Zappa and make you think that it was supposed to be that way all along. But I knew him well before those concussive events and he had the gift even then.
Once again Perry shows us why he's the best, great listen.
Keep up the great work man! America and the free world need great music and a DJ to play it. So sick of the way radio is now.

Mr. Perry Bax, host of this podcast, seems to outdo himself on a regular basis. I present Exhibit A: A little something for everyone; new stuff, the proggy, classic, and jam persuasions. Much of this goes into the realm of pure musical invention.

You will hear stuff you thought you knew, and then you will be pleasantly surprised by the twists, then Perry picks some magic out of the blue, and there I am looking up some group that is new to me.

Your shows are great. I can identify about 80% of the artists right off the bat and then the other 20% are fun to figure out (or wait for you to identify). I think that is about the right mix - shows that you and I have similar tastes but still plenty of chances for me to hear something new.
So I finally had some time last night to go through your shows, convert them to FLAC, apply metatags, etc. So now your shows all categorized neatly into my Foobar interface and, since I'm here alone, I went to sleep last night listening to a shuffle of your shows. Stayed on until my computer rebooted for a windows update around 5:00 AM. Now that was fun!

Perry, once again an epic 'cast. I don't know how I manage the 2 odd weeks between each podcast
This is really nirvana in disguise, as I shall enjoy whatever time there is to devote to listening, and learning from this master, and likely listen again and again and again to some episodes, so do not care, really, if I ever catch up at all.
I regret there are as yet so many as-yet un-listened to episodes (by me, as new listener), and I can only devote a few hours each day to catching up.
There is not one thing I do not like about this show.
Perry has an encyclopedic knowledge of contemporary music, musicians, and canny access to their recordings both live performances and studio ones.
Loving the integrity of Mr. Perry Bax, his musical tastes, proclivities, and choices; his skills re: mixing, blending, presenting music thematically; the marvelously quirky openings to every show!
Best one yet, sure wish I could buy the podcast version of these songs! Keep it up Perry!!

Fantastic music programming. Basically use it as a radio station on my mp3 player. Have listened to all of the programs up to date probably 4-5 times, and still not even close to bored. One of my favorite things is listening to a familiar song done differently or by another artist. Keep up the great work.

I started working night shifts a month ago and in our office we have a shared radio. the default station of choice has a regular rotation of 80s and 90s pop tracks as well as a collection of irritating jingles. i guess what I'm saying is thank you for being a musical oasis in this bland commercial desert.

Just an observation about iTunes - the new iTunes radio (set to the "discovery" setting - does not offer the surprise factor that Mr. Bax has going on with BRYHNH. Guess I'm spoiled . . .

Perry's choices stuke and knowledge are second to none... For an American ha ha. The scale of different music I have found or rediscovered even at age 49 is staggering, new and old.

I recently downloaded a few of these podcasts and this is GREAT...
The name is right! If your flying somewhere put a few of these on your iPad and enjoy.
I like the variety of music. I like that each show is somehow tied to current events, or a common theme. I especially enjoy the inclusion of the more obscure live tracks and "B" sides.
Those are musical treasure!
Once in a while, things get a bit political. I don't always agree with Perry, but I respect him for his willingness to stand up for his principles.

I have been listening to Rock and Roll since I was a kid and what I love about your podcasts is you play a lot of the great old stuff on your podcast and new music that I would never hear if it wasn't for you.

What I like about your podcasts is that you bring us up to date on what some of the great musicians are doing these days, I mean as far as new recordings, collaboration, reissuing albums, etc. Where else am I going to find out about that?
You combine the good new music with the great old tunes. And, you wrap them all in a theme, that sometimes gets me to chuckle. That's your gift.
You've introduced me to new music, and I don't even know where to go to hear new music. I'm certainly not going to hear that on my local FM radio station. And shows that are new music shows - like college stations that play only alternative - really don't attract me to listen to them because some of the new music really isn't music.
You just don't hear some of these great tunes any more on terrestrial radio, and not on satellite radio.

I have spent the last month in my cabin in northern Wisconsin, no electricity, no running water, no indoor plumbing but with your music, my mp3 player, some external speakers and a bunch of rechargeable batteries...it is just like home. You do a great job and I just want to say "thank you" again.
Perry's mixes are just right for exercise, reading, road trips or just relaxing. I recommend this podcast to all my friends and even to people I don't like. It's just that good.
I gave up FM many years ago when I decided to not subject my hi fidelity audio system to any more commercials. I have been listening to Perry's podcast since 2007, and what I find is unique is the podcasts themes, the unique covers and alternative cuts, and the cool transitions from one track to the next. Keep up the good work, Perry. I recommend your podcast to everyone that loves good music.
As the owner of thousands of records [remember those?] and thousands of CD's [I can stop anytime I want to -- I just don't want to] I listen to BRYHNH and am consistently surprised by the mixture of interesting / unusual / compelling and rarely heard versions of songs I may have heard in other, more familiar versions, or of songs I have never heard by groups and artists who get little or no airplay in traditional formats. Perry . . . keep up the great work.
One of the things i am always most amazed is at the eclectic mix of tunes that Perry manages to muster podcast after podcast. There is such a wealth of music out there that is not being heard. and it's not just the oddball bands or the new music. It may be an alternate take of a song that we all know or a remix or a live version....all in all it is in fact the best radio you have never heard.
I am from UK and believe me there's no radio station playing anything like this at any side of the dial.

The titles may be familiar but the versions quite often are unfamiliar. Live tracks, covers, alternate takes, all make me take another look at the old familiars. I, too, have been listening since at least 2007 and have heard every episode Perry has posted. Some several times. I look forward to each new one. Keep them coming.
The tracks on BRYHNH in my view, are for folks who have tired of getting their music in traditional fashion-i.e listening to several radio stations and looking for something new and those who really Know their music and are looking for a special version or live version. Finally, I look for new artists and combinations of artists that are outside of the commercial realm.
I thoroughly enjoy Perry's site and look forward to hearing what he has put together....I find it far superior to anything on the dial....I also love the relevance to current events and his always humors spin! I do not perceive myself as a musical snob but I do know what I like! I have and will continue to recommend this site to all who appreciate music that cannot be found on the radio! You will never hear a block of music like Perry puts together, on the radio, anywhere.
Its not the playlist, but the podcast that makes BRYHNH unique.
Back in the day...before Perry's comments on the casts, before the playlists, it was always an adventure of what you might hear...maybe not a new song, but songs coupled that you would never hear on radio at least on the same station...like Rush (not a favorite of mine), Sinatra, and Jamey Johnson (a favorite of mine). Perry told me once that that a good song is a good song and it doesn't matter where it gets played.
You have such a great feeling for 1 - 12 (or 14, or 15, whatever the case may be)...
Always the perfect selection of tunes...in the Perfect order!

There are some free form radio stations playing a little bit of everything, but NOT the hard to find "one-off" alternate takes, live versions, independents, regional bands, and eclectic mixes that work so well together like on Best Radio.
I have traveled the US and the world for the last 30 years and I have never found anything like BRYHNH.

Perry finds the most amazing music that is almost impossible to find anywhere else. He always provides insightful commentary and I know he knows what he's talking about. There is always something for everyone; no matter who is listening each show is entertaining and his themes are always relevant.

You are my fix for "mainstream" music, since you play the good stuff and things I may have missed. Listening to the podcast all day today in China has brought me a little bit of home, and has helped relive some of the homesickness i have been feeling.

I'm sorry I've never posted a comment before but I've been a listener for a long time. I have many of the same musical interests. It's a welcome sound when I catch things like Gilmour's "Mihalis" or King Crimson's "Matte Kudasai" or Genesis' "Firth of Fifth" in the shows. The variety is eclectic, and the selection of live and remixed versions of otherwise familiar songs is a real draw. I'm still wandering through the vast backlog of shows, so the easily readable tracklists are useful in finding my way. Music, like any other form of information, wants to be free, and your podcasts are indeed a liberating experience.
There are a number of podcasts I've started listening through lately, and BRYHNH is one of the better. I especially appreciate the 80 minute formatting, which is convenient for transfer to a CD for listening to in the car where a better sound quality is important or for transfer to the computers at work where they like to block any website with podcast in the title.
These shows are typically pretty good to pretty great. But this one is absolutely amazingly great. I was out of my chair within a minute of White Punks on Dope and there's so so so much more to go.

The songs are from tracks most have never heard before, many live and some just recorded and seem to be unreleased. Kind of like the best of the hidden tracks! Also the genre of music varies within each podcast and since my music background encompasses so many different genres I like it immensely.
Friendly Host, Great selection of content, always updated regularly and on time, quite simply there is no other podcast like it around, I cannot praise it enough!
Perry Bax is independent, knowledgeable, affable and his musical choices are very interesting to me.
A large variation of musical styles that somehow seem to sound right when played together.

There's almost always a song that I like that I've forgotten about over the years. I like the mix of new music and older music.
It gives me an opportunity to listen to music that I wouldn't otherwise listen to. I like the covers of the songs that I grew up with. I like the concert cuts of songs that I know. It has a high wackiness factor, and I like that.
Mix of music you don't hear anywhere else, so you can listen without the repetitive fatigue such as what you experience with commercial radio.
This it is REAL and not some phony assed commercial enterprise
I heard music I haven't heard in years and wouldn't remember existed otherwise. I also hear great things I've never heard before.
Good, themed music with a great intro to each episode putting one in the mood for the music.

I've been listening off an on for over a year. I got a new iPod a couple years back and discovered podcasts. I tried numerous podcasts and radio shows, then i came across yours. Did a generic search in iTunes for music podcasts to find it. Heard 2 episodes and I was hooked.
I only discovered your show yesterday, but I did listen to Disgracing the Family. I'm hoping to listen to a few more episodes this weekend. It seems to be quite the eclectic mix. Which I love (sometimes I have trouble listening a CD of the same band all the way through without taking a break.)

I am a big fan of your podcast. I have been listening for about a year and a half to two years now. My favorite part is the variety of songs that you play. From songs I'm familiar with, to songs that I didn't previously know, to the obscure cover songs....its all great. I play a game with myself to try and identify the songs and artists and then check if I'm right when you come in with the announcements.
I can't speak for everyone, but I do share the feeling that you make a "mixtape" for us each time you put the show together. What amazes me is that each show is incrementally better than the last one...which was even better than the prior one!

I really enjoy the funny bit at the start of the show, and your ideas for themes really come through in the selection of the tunes. The support of the website that lists the playlist really helps to tie together the theme and the song selection...and you have a wicked sense of humor and irony! It takes a bit of a twisted mind (guilt, here) to fully appreciate your intent.
Hope your holidays were wonderful and your are feeling better these days. My iPod died, so I download the show and listen in on my workstation. Cubicle life just got better, thanks to your efforts.

I have been listening to your podcasts for a while, and finally decided to send you some just deserved feedback. I love music, and I find myself waiting for the new episodes to arrive to see what type of journey you will send me on. From Zappa's version of Stairway to heaven, to a solo piano rendition of Close to the Edge, this podcast offers the variety that I enjoy listening to. Please give yourself a pat on the back & keep doing what you do.
This is a great show. I suppose great times inspire such selections. Overall, I like how you include classic songs that are covered in often equally classic ways. I'm listening to the Allman Bros cover of The Night... as I write. Never heard it, but very nice.
I continue to slowly go through the many shows and try to do shows that were posted in the month we are in. So I'm listening to 2006-11-14 the_revolution_is_being_televised Vol 50 right now and early in the show you talk about the recent elections perhaps indicating the beginning of a change. You were far more correct than you could have imagined.
I'm like a kid in a candy store and I'm jumping from one show to another and jumping some more. Can't get enough. So much to listen to. I feel like I have to catch up right away, but know I can't.
And now a question for you: how do you do it? I really mean it. How can you come up with so many unique playlists for each show? Plus the added constraint of a theme. Or does a theme make it easier?

Back when I first found "The Best Radio..." it was music only, but I like it better with a bit of commentary. I know many of the tunes though the version you play is often new to me. Thanks for introducing me to a lot of recent music. It's motivated me to buy some of the artists. I've listened to all "The Best Radio..." shows three or four times over, and expect to continue to replay them.
I often get some exercise by inline skating the Pier Four to Coutes
Paradise Trail here in Hamilton, Ont. When skating I always listen to
music and yesterday I chose "Artists Only". It was great, the music
matched the rhythm of my skates, and I loved the selections. I listen
to all the Best Radio's but I gotta tell you Vol. 92 really struck a
chord.

I was looking for good music podcasts and ended up in your site, which is sort of a music-podcast heaven... I mean, the track selection for each podcast is awesome, kudos for that!
I got an Zune 80gb for my birthday in April. While exploring the podcasts available on the Zune Marketplace, I discovered The Best Radio You Have Never Heard. I checked out a couple of the song lists and found you to be a kindred spirit in musical taste. I downloaded the entire set of podcasts from the rss feed and started from the beginning with Floating Sex Bucket, The Best Radio You Have Never Heard, Volume 04. Holy crap! "God damn it, Bax! You're a god damn genius!" to paraphrase the Drill Sergeant.
Usually, I spend the hours driving, by myself, across the wasteland of Northern Ohio and Indiana trying to find something, anything decent on the radio. Not this year. In addition to BRYHNH, I enjoyed the company of my spouse and teenage sons. They were unable to sleep because they wanted to stay awake and listen to the music! Perry, not many people can put together radio that keeps everyone, male and female, from 13 to 44 years old awake and happy at the same time. Once again, you are sheer audio genius. Thank you so much for BRYHNH and please keep the new ones coming.
I went to WIU from '83 - '87 and I have to thank you for expanding my musical horizons. I listened to you on WIUS all the time. A few times I would call you and give you some obscure detail about a band I was trying to think of or I would try to hum a few bars and you would always know the answer! I'm extremely pleased I somehow found this podcast. Being that I am a younger Individual, I am always trying to improve my rock repertoire, and this allows me to do so without access to a radio at all moments. Thanks, and keep the awesome tunes coming.
I heard about your podcast in a review on podcastreviews.com or reviewsofpodcasts.com... one of those. It stuck in my head because the guy was really raving about you and your song selections and would have given you a perfect 10 out of 10 but he was disappointed that you didn't speak much at all. lol. I am originally from Michigan but I use to work in Chicago from 1990 to 2002. I have been a WXRT listener/fan ever since, however, the company Jim and I work at stop Internet streaming at the first of the year. I was unable to listen to WXRT so finding your pod-casts was a godsend.

Today was the first time I attempted to get a podcast going and I couldn't
have found a better one to start it all off. The names of your shows are
kick-ass, and the music even better, I'm loving' it all!
What I like about your 'casts is that they play really well, better than the play lists I hear on most stations. I almost wish you had kept the song lists less accessible; I don't always have the self control to wait until after I've listened.
Thought I'd write to say keep up the good work. I started a new job recently in the highlands of Scotland and there are no radios. I've got a lap top from work but they restrict the access for listening to radio stations. So anyway, I've started to download your podcasts and listen to them every day at work. I'm working backwards and I'm currently on number 65 I think. Great tunes. Nice one. Take it easy

Just an email to say that I love this show, it's one of the most original podcasts I've heard. I think podcasts are a terrific way to discover new music and get away from playlist-led commercial radio. I have already told a couple of friends about this one.
Because of you, I had to buy a higher capacity iPod! Just erased my hard drive for a fresh install of Vista Ultimate...and had to retrieve all back episodes of the show...because I have my favorites (Ball Bearing Paint Job, Game Over, Anything can Happen Day). Your show is like the mix tape I always wanted to make, but never got around to. You played "4th of July" by the L.A. band "X"...now that is taste!

Very nice! Makes dull work a bit more palatable. You have "The Art of Noise" in there. Are you kidding me? Thought I was the only one who listened to them anymore. Surprised I didn't hear any TMBG :-) Good thing I forgot my MP3 player at home today and had to find alternative entertainment.
I really dig the show. I have listened to your 4 last podcasts today while I was gardening and I enjoyed them. I am in a heavy downloading mission now, getting the rest. I have sent a message to my friends in USA and Europe recommending your podcasts. I subscribed to the mailing list and I will stay tuned for further podcasts! I have a daily 90 minute commute each way and depending on the day, a long waiting time between patients, so your shows will keep me company, plenty of time to catch up :)
Well, I cannot thank you enough for your podcasts. Many of the artists who already graced my I-pod plus many new I had not heard before. I am always looking for new (and old) interesting and intelligent music. You got a new listener and fan. Seriously, here in NJ, what's with Elton John, Creed and Rod Stewart 24/7 in every radio station? Please, give me a break. I really like the music.
I think the podcast is great and is changing/improving my music
listening habits. Even though I have 4 or 5 thousand songs on my
iTunes, it still seems like I end up listening to the same favorites
over and over. With the podcast I get to hear new stuff all the time
and although some I've heard, much is new. I like your commentary also
with insights into the music and various historical nuggets.
This is the best podcast site bar none. I just started downloading these things into my ipod about 2 months ago & just cannot get enough...Nothing on Buffalo (NY) radio can compare, especially when it comes to different versions of older tunes, e.g. Lamb Lies Down in Broadway & Fleetwod Mac's live version of the Chain, just to name a couple...

the 1st & 15th of each month when a new podcast comes out...I just started
downloading these things about 2 months ago & just can't get
enough...Nothing on local radio (Buffalo, NY) can compare, especially when
it comes to different versions of older tunes, e.g. Fleetwood Mac's live
version of the Chain, old Frank Zappa tunes, etc...
The first thing I did was send your link to a Floyd fan. Now that I'm hooked on your musical taste, I'll be promoting you left and right -- and sideways.

i actually looked up "rock podcast" on google and it gave me a site that said u were #7 best in the nation or something. that and ur show didn't seem to elitist yet at the same time u played some hardcore deep tracks... i really love it by the way.

Living abroad and out of western culture for a while has left me
missing my old LP collection and it's refreshing to hear some of the
tunes you spin; especially the lesser known.
I just wanted to say thanks for the music. I'm really enjoying the mixes you do. sharing them with my kids, even.
I have just downloaded the last 3 offerings - so will spend play them to death over the next few days.

OK - I'm fairly new to podcasts, I stumbled across your feeds and they are bloody excellent - I really enjoy listening to them.
I randomly chose episodes titles that sound interesting to me and listen while I am in the living room or the garden. From the few I heard "The Road To Infinite" and "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" are my favorites. I
really like the quotes on the beginning of each episode, that together
with the good music was the main reason why I kept listening, so keep
that up. I will definitely spread the word about the podcast.

Definitely the BEST radio I've never heard!!
It seems like each one has something unique that catches me. Plus the intros to the the 'cast are catchy too. Most of the other podcasts I listen too have a lot of underground or indie or obscure, these mixes border on the less frequently heard, some is obscure to the mainstream listener, but I'm really enjoy them.
I just want to let you know that I'm blown away by these podcasts. I can't get enough and this has easily become my favorite podcast. I'm looking forward to the next batch. I love the mixes that you've put together. Thanks for pulling these all together.

Championship Vinyl and make tapes for each other, complete with "rules".

I normally don't listen to music podcasts as podsafe music is often
a bit thin, but you don't have that problems there.

I have a few episodes synced to my phone for my commute from Delft to the Hague in the Netherlands, and that always lifts my spirits (even before I have had my morning coffee!.)
