Stayed home this morning packing for a trip so I got an early listen. So I hear Todd, Sly, ELP all in one show...nice. Plus the Elton John version I don't recall ever hearing before. Also nice tip of the hat to Levon together with all his friends. Nice choice for the archive podcast one of my favorites.

Working my way thru this one got as far as sex pistols on first listen the rest excited my taste buds and as I expected it to climax with Todd as always awesome and close with macca Sadly the chunk of thick as a brick 2 left me "adrift and dumbfounded" I've listened to the album a few times and nothing excites me about mr anderson name checking Tull songs.
Perry responds:
As I said on the show, at first I was adrift too. But with subsequent listens on the iPod walking on lake, I began to like it more and more.
Or perhaps it's just another case of endorphins, adrenalin and painkillers doing their thing . . .
:-)
Steve says:

Thank you Perry! There's very little Yelpesis elsewhere on the podcasts I listen to. Here is Shanghai we rejoice every time a new episode is posted. Our band is playing at a strange 'British Rock' event soon and you gave me some great ideas, principally Love Vigilantes.
Bill Donnelly says:

Another set of "classic picks" Perry, excellent choices again, I'm wondering who the sax player on the Govt Mule track was?

Stef, that would be Ron Holloway on sax .

iPod left behind? iPad steps up. What is the Sleepless cut from? Nice version. And Captain Beyond...that was on my wish list from two years go. Brings back memories from the damaged short term banks. Got a flash of skipping 5th period chem and smoking Afgan hash with a makeshift pipe (cardboard tube from a pants hanger and tin foil). Maybe some Captain Beefheart in the offing. Shudder to think what latent memory that could dredge up.
Perry responds:
"Sleepless" would be the King Crimson, U.K. import 12" single, Dance Mix, mixed by Francois Kevorkian, who was a hot remixer at the time, and one of my favorite mixer as well . . .

Vol. 176 | 01.15.2012
NEW FOR JANUARY 15, 2012
As is our custom, for the beginning of the new year we turn over the controls to Rick From New York, who dives into the BRYHNH catalog and comes up with the top picks from 2011.
We now join Rick in progress . . .
Have you ever wondered how the twisted mind of Mr. Bax conjures up the titles, themes and sound bites for BRYHNH every two weeks? How does he match sounds, images and music to create a sublime mash-up time after time?
Well, don't look at me . . .
I'm just as mystified as anyone else. But I have tried to take a few different approaches to my own year-end "best of" entries. This year, I've noticed a sharp uptick in the number of comment postings and many appreciations for specific tunes, so I have decided to create a "People's Choice" version of Rick's Picks. Along with a nod to the two amazing "special edition" podcasts, I scanned the comments section of the BRYHNH website for ideas to go into the mix with a couple of my own and was very pleased with the results.
I hope you like "Give the People What They Want !" BRYHNH Vol. 176 - Rick's Picks 2011

great tribute Perry..didnt know Bill that well other than as a casual acquaintance from high school but one thing that impressed me was his knowledge and taste for the obscure movies I thought I was the only one that watched and the ability to quote equally obscure lines from the same movies..his passing is just tragic

Perry, this is the first time I've clicked on Terri's FB link and a rare day when I'm allowing myself to venture beyond my typical online haunts. Sounds like you lost a dear friend? Please tell me where I can read the back story, if you have one posted online?
Perry responds:
I do not know of any tributes to Bill Figatner online save for his Facebook Page or the comments in his Tribune Obit.
But I will tell you this; I have seen a bunch of random posts on Facebook from strangers asking “who is this Bill guy?” Bill was that sort of guy.

Awesome tribute I still remember that apartment overlooking the highway and Bill sticking his head out the window to tell you I have arrived.

I know you'd rather not have had to make this one, but as others have said, it stands as a great tribute. He sounds like a true treasure & you did right by him.

Hi Perry,
Simply great. I would have liked to contribute to that ending with a "live" recording of the solo spliced in :D
Sorry to hear about Bill.
Perry responds:
Don't think for a second I didn't think about a cool obscure live version, or as you say, I could have stitched something together.
But in this case, purity was more important in reliving the memory . . .

Perry, just catching up to this podcast. So sorry for your loss. With everyone that we lose, it takes a little more out of us, doesn't it, my friend?
Perry responds:
Amen, Mike.

Perry responds:
Just a long fade between Squakett and 1-2-3. No worries, the Scottish storms you are still paying for didn't damage your connection and got you a glitchy episode . . .
