Hurrooo !
OK Usual blah blah blah . . .
Love show blah blah blah. Not gonna dissect it like i usually do BLAH BLAH. Like Stormy(sic) and the usual suspects, I WAIT WITH EAGER anticipation for each episode. Did i mention that Tom Morello was playing at Hyde Park in London with the boss this year and that Grand Funk were in Hampton, Virginia when i was there in 2007? SUK IT..blah blah. OK, stand outs "I'm Afraid Of Americans" still one of my fav Bowie tracks. Stones call it good on this one. Shame about Green Day (I still think they suck) . TODD yummy. Suzanne Vega, touch of loveliness and dance to Neil's wail every time.
See ya soon next episode suckers. Gonna be a great one...
Welcome.

Great show! I always forget what a trip "Green Grass & High Tides" is and the extended "Madman . . . " was brilliant. A fitting tribute to the biggest hurricane to hit NJ since Rubin Carter.
Perry responds:
Rubin, was waiting in the wings for the call that never happened, with an overly long show that needed whittling down to the 79:35 seconds that it is . . .

Well Good Morning Chicago and the rest of the WORLD.
hAVING jUST rETuRned To Scotland From a Near 3.5 WEEKs In the upper Echelons Of BryHnh Towers. It's time to get back to business. (in this episode of My Review of the SHOW..ARE AN ABNORMAL AMOUNT OF tYPOS to allow mY vERY gOOD fRIEND a moment Of Frustration hehe)
What an amazing Vacation and Frustration. Poor Paulie's ailments and my Green Card application going in, but Mr Obama's being too busy with that Mutt Romney, a man loved by all his family and hated by more than 47 % of the listeners to Bryhnh.
OK, Run with it Dave....
Michael Brook. I could have listened to 80 mins of this guy, sadly only a few seconds...leading into Mick and the boys sadly as worn as poor Paulie's cruiciates. But I digress. I was listening to this in Chicago's O'Hare airport waiting for my flight back to the UK on Tuesday night..and Camel came to my rescue. Joy in a great prog moment LIVE... Next the Banshees and the Cure trading slots in Punk/Goth lifetime legends awards with some tearing up on there own and others songs..AH joy another track from old school Page and Plant...I wasn't seeing the tracks as i was listening on my preloaded I pod. JOY indeed Thanks perry
On and on it went like a queue outside Johnnie's for a hot and sweet combo..Until i skipped Greenday, never my fav pseudo punk rattlers.
Yeah, the Eagles came to my rescue with a live version of Turn To Stone. Loved this Guitar Heaven..
Passing the test with Peter Gabriel in the days when a SLOWBURN was a less complicated show than we saw in the United Center on the Thurs a week ago. TOP STUFF indeed (yes my little weakness) sliding in to a SOOPERB VERSION of Chamber Of 32 Doors with Steve Hackett's new solo album out soon. CANNOT wait to see this forthcoming Tour in May next year ..
ELP who on fail with this beauty, huh Not me. I still remember the smell of the album cover when i picked this up from the store the first time around...
Aimee "WHO" Mann? Ahhh now i know hadn't encountered her but there is hope she sounds like the late lamented Kirsty McColl.. grabbed my Roger McGuinn next in the form of a jangle or two. Nice to my fav Monkee... I FIRST HEARD MIKE NESMITH when i bought a solo album that was a cut out ,cheap American import in a shop in Glasgow....Getting down and dirty with Bettye who was on one of the chat shows when i was sitting on my chair In BRYHNH towers in Chicago recently...strange choice but a great cover.. Then Mr Joe Jackson from an album i wasn't convinced on until a few growing listens..then seeing him live at The Vic in Chicago with Perry and John CC LAST FRIDAY NIGHT. Soooperb. Grab a ticket if he calls in your town...ahhh now i got caught with a right hook on the last track, one of my fav Beatles songs (apart from Blackbird) crooned by the Elvis Presley Orchestra...Touch of smooth to call it a day in my last few minutes In Chicago 2012 visit...Thanks Guys on another SHOW that lives up to the BEST radio you have NEVER HEARD...BLOW THAT HORN. Sound the victory. On to the next . . .

Hope Paulies "dog days" end soon...

Best to Paulie, Perry. A little late getting around to this one, but an excellent show as always. I thought the "Slowburn"/"Chamber" mix was phenomenal. They almost sounded like they were meant to be together as one piece. And I seem to be hearing ELP a lot lately in various places, including radio and some TV concerts. This just adds to it.
The first time I ever heard "Hey Jude" it wasn't Paul singing it. It was this Elvis version. I was probably 8 and my parents had just bought a home stereo that consisted of AM/FM with built-in 8-track and two speakers. That Elvis 8-track was one of the few in their meager collection I cared to listen to. This one brought back some memories.
John D. says:
10/29/2012
I am sooo behind. Best to ya Paulie - you're a good dog. Perry, I know your anxiety - our Lil' Heidi went under to get a tooth pulled. Recovery a bit rougher for Paulie but he's got a good pack leader to take care of him.
Perry responds: 10.29.12
Paulie is still recovering four weeks out, but a long way to go. Just carried him into to Perry's World (which will require carrying him out later) while working on the 11.1.12 show. I suspect he will be of little help, but I like having him under my feet (where he is now) just the same. Paulie also had a tooth extracted. One that our vet said was the worst cracked tooth he had ever seen. In the days leading up to his extraction once we knew it was broken, he gnawed on his bones without pain, which kept us relieved. The evening following was a different story. In retrospect, you're right John; a crack in the sidewalk compared to this recovery canyon . . .

You know I'm a big fan of BRYHNH Mr. Bax. but save for the Zappa Bolero opener, first 20 minutes or so of this particular podcast made me WANT TO SHOOT MYSELF!
As I've mentioned to you before, your penchant for prog indulgences are usually the only dead spots on a given podcast for me, but it's usually only a 6 (or 7, or 9) minute patch to endure (and often tucked in somewhere in the middle or later). But this one was too much right out of the box. If the world needs less of anything, it's that sterile Pat Metheny sound . . .
Perry responds:
Alright ! Haven't had a good prog thrashing in a long time.
Oddly enough Mike, when Metheny gets played, it generates more positive comments from the silent masses than almost anything else I play. It is that sterile sound that actually activated the usually un-active. Life is stranger than shit . . .
Billy Batts says:
11/12/2012
Pat Metheny is prog?

Yes, to non-believers in the context MCH was referring, Pat Metheny may as well be Nektar . . .

Another show. Another killer audio assault. The legal side of things to start off then PATTI SMITH, I'M HOPING TO SEE IN GLASGOW SOON.
Particularly killing me with this song is Black Uhuru. As always one of my fav bands from the collection i used to have of Dub reggae and reggae from the day. Ry Cooder had all the Cats on ma hood making for cover. Mutt should take a hint.

They are redeemed.

Working my way thru this one got as far as sex pistols on first listen the rest excited my taste buds and as I expected it to climax with Todd as always awesome and close with macca Sadly the chunk of thick as a brick 2 left me "adrift and dumbfounded" I've listened to the album a few times and nothing excites me about mr anderson name checking Tull songs.

As I said on the show, at first I was adrift too. But with subsequent listens on the iPod walking on lake, I began to like it more and more.

Another set of "classic picks" Perry, excellent choices again, I'm wondering who the sax player on the Govt Mule track was?

Stef, that would be Ron Holloway on sax .
I should also note, this was mixed and recorded by my good friend and Allman Brother/Govt. Mule front of house sound mixer, Bruce "Slim" Judd . . .
jailbee says:

iPod left behind? iPad steps up. What is the Sleepless cut from? Nice version. And Captain Beyond...that was on my wish list from two years go. Brings back memories from the damaged short term banks. Got a flash of skipping 5th period chem and smoking Afgan hash with a makeshift pipe (cardboard tube from a pants hanger and tin foil). Maybe some Captain Beefheart in the offing. Shudder to think what latent memory that could dredge up.
Perry responds:
"Sleepless" would be the King Crimson, U.K. import 12" single, Dance Mix, mixed by Francois Kevorkian, who was a hot remixer at the time, and one of my favorite mixer as well . . .

Supper is almost ready. That was actually PG telling the story of Henry, er Michael, er Henry, er wait (who caught that?) from the Selling England By The Pound Tour, but the actual track was the studio version. The remastered 2007 version from Foxtrot in fact . . .

Vol. 176 | 01.15.2012
NEW FOR JANUARY 15, 2012
As is our custom, for the beginning of the new year we turn over the controls to Rick From New York, who dives into the BRYHNH catalog and comes up with the top picks from 2011.
We now join Rick in progress . . .
Have you ever wondered how the twisted mind of Mr. Bax conjures up the titles, themes and sound bites for BRYHNH every two weeks? How does he match sounds, images and music to create a sublime mash-up time after time?
Well, don't look at me . . .
I'm just as mystified as anyone else. But I have tried to take a few different approaches to my own year-end "best of" entries. This year, I've noticed a sharp uptick in the number of comment postings and many appreciations for specific tunes, so I have decided to create a "People's Choice" version of Rick's Picks. Along with a nod to the two amazing "special edition" podcasts, I scanned the comments section of the BRYHNH website for ideas to go into the mix with a couple of my own and was very pleased with the results.
I hope you like "Give the People What They Want !" BRYHNH Vol. 176 - Rick's Picks 2011

great tribute Perry..didnt know Bill that well other than as a casual acquaintance from high school but one thing that impressed me was his knowledge and taste for the obscure movies I thought I was the only one that watched and the ability to quote equally obscure lines from the same movies..his passing is just tragic

Perry responds:
I do not know of any tributes to Bill Figatner online save for his Facebook Page or the comments in his Tribune Obit.
But I will tell you this; I have seen a bunch of random posts on Facebook from strangers asking “who is this Bill guy?” Bill was that sort of guy.

But in this case, purity was more important in reliving the memory . . .
