I love the podcast. Also like the groovy tunes. I can see you and I like some of the same types of music though I've never heard some of the music in this podcast I like it : ) Taking this one to work with me for the weekend. Perry did a great job on the Floyd podcast too. Sneaky Devils...

Hmm, I was worried this would be too different from the Doc's Floyd "style", but it really wasn't. Many of the songs - particularly UNKLE, are very much in the same spirit as the "Brain Damage" show. Good stuff.

Perry,
Based on your last two podcasts, I am officially unsubscribing from your Best Radio podcast.
I do have a suggestion for your next podcast, though.
You might do one on the integrity of our free press and independent media these days. Or, you can do one on the mind-numb American population that listens to the press and is too lazy to investigate the backgrounds of chameleons running for high office. Or, better yet, you can do one on the success of Communism in the world, and that way you would be championing the ideals of Chicago's favorite rabble-rouser, who hasn't accomplished a damn thing in his life other than paying off his cronies with my tax money.
Have a nice day.
Mike
Perry responds:
Mike,
Sorry to hear you are unsubscribing from the show.
Especially since you have been very supportive of the show in the past.
I have been using currents events and my point of view on them as themes for
the podcast since the start.
Why is this one any different or more importantly, why has it touched a
nerve on you.
Damn, I have made much stronger stands almost every month, from religion, to
dumb yups, to parents, school triggermen, and even dumb radio guys.
Sorry the totally bizarre quotes from the VP candidate being replayed are
upsetting to you.
Hope you decide to stay for the music . . .

Don't know if you get these older ones but...seriously?...no Jethro Tull Stormwatch for this?...i know you dig Tull cause i read about your sis..now play some..and i learned of U.K. thru Tull when i saw them in to...keep playing U.K. as well...mind blowing that u know them actually!
Perry responds:
Yes, I considered something from Stormwatch from that show, but just got knocked out in the final edit for time. Saw that tour with U.K. opening, and having seen Jethro Tull a ton of times, we figured to split after U.K., but the lights went down and we stuck around as we had nothing better to do.
Whoa. At the break we looked at each other and said "What were we thinking. We had seen Jethro Tull enough times to know that it would be outstanding." And it was. And the material from Stormwatch came off well live.
And yes, U.K. fan from the day the first record was released. I play quite a few tracks from their Chicago show in 1978, which I attended for $1.00, that included a banging version of "Sahara Of Snow.'

As usual Perry, you've created another brilliant podcast. i really enjoyed the Black Dog version. I've always prefered the Country Honk to the other one. Old radio doen't know what it is missing, programmed to play dribble, as Queen said "Radio Gaa Gaa Radio Blah Blah" Nice work Perry, nice work indeed.

Is she new ?
Has she ever performed here in Chicago ??
Any other details.
Perry replies . . .
Yes, she is new and from Wales in the UK.
Her debut record was out here (US) in March.
Keep an eye open for club dates soon I am thinking.

I'm trying to put together the most comprehensive list of music blogs which feature out of print or otherwise unavailable music, as well as those which share podcasts, or sample mp3 files. I've categorized them so that you can easily find exactly what you are looking for.
If you would like to help me out you can do so by suggesting blogs/podcasts to me, linking to me, or just leaving some feedback. Thanks for all the hard work and time that goes into maintaining this blog, and especially for the fantastic music you share. Take care.

Perry.... What an explorer!Yeah.it's not enough to say DJ because a DJ as you write in a post is something with most of the time not taste for music or is obliged to follow the most fashionable music. On the contrary you are an explorer of the music the ROCK music, with that basis you just give the pleasure to listen different groups that has as a genre the rock but in different styles. You are awesome!!!
I was looking for new groups and new songs and at first sight when I see your web site and the tracks on your pod cast I was thinking "Oh I don't like YES... I don't know...ok just try to listen one and see what's the effect: I am hyptotized!!" Seriously..ok there are some tracks I don't like at all but is just a frame of the masterpiece that music offer.
So...THANK YOU FOR HELPING MUSIC TO BE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ART THAT EXIST...YOU CAN IMAGE IT IN DIFFERENT WAYS BUT IT LIVES FOREVER!!!!

Love your podcasts...
One quick comment/question: is there any way you could put the track list into the description of the podcasts? I tried doing it myself, but apparently iTunes doesn't let you edit the description section of podcasts :-/. A minor quibble, I just like being able to check the track list while I'm listening on my iPod and see what song/band I'm listening to. ;)
Seriously though, great job on these. It's nice to find someone with tastes as cross-generational as mine.
Perry replies:
Thanks Brian.
The short answer to your question is yes.
Per your suggestion, I checked it out and I can add the playlist in the "lyrics" window.
All anyone has to do is tap the center button of their iPod and navigate to that window.
The current podcast will have the playlist added shortly, and older shows added gradually.
Subsequent shows will all include playlists that are viewable on an iPod.

Vol. 78 | 01.15.2008
NEW FOR JANUARY 15, 2008
For the second year, Best Radio listener and contributor, Rick from New York has compiled the best tracks from the 2007 Best Radio You Have Never Heard series. Not to be confused with a Best of 2007 list, these tracks are hand picked from the 24 podcasts released in 2007. To be sure Rick has include a good number of 2007 releases in his choices, but also included songs that were played this year that compliment them very well.
Here's what Rick had to say about the process:
With a whole year's worth of material to work with (24 podcasts!), you might think that
putting together a "Best Of.." compilation would be fairly straight forward.
For me, it's not quite that simple. While the process is mostly intuitive, I am always haunted by
the voice of Rob, the music snob from the film "High Fidelity:"
"The making of a great compilation..., like breaking up, is hard to do and takes ages
longer than it might seem. You gotta kick off with a killer, to grab attention. Then you
got to take it up a notch, but you don't wanna blow your wad, so then you got to cool it
off a notch. There are a lot of rules..."
Just what are those other "rules"? Therein lies the mystery.
One of the things that Perry does is to hit the listener with a "sucker punch", which is a piece of music that is instantly recognizable, yet completely unexpected. I love that.
He also likes to string songs together in a contextual way that can border on the thematic.
I've tried to stay true to the spirit of BRYHNH while inflicting my own take on it and I feel that I've come up with something a little less groove-oriented and perhaps more "Pop", but at the same time, something that diehard BRYHNH fans will appreciate. Enjoy.
Yes, Rick has done a bang up job again.
